Say Goodbye

The last night I saw you,
The last night we touched,
My soul said good-bye.

Your embrace was steadfast,
My heart was drowning in past sorrows,
Sorrows only our spirits knew together.

My soul said good-bye.

Your eyes told a story that your mouth
tried to convince,
As you threw dagger after dagger into the depths of my being
that only you knew.

My soul said good-bye.

I looked away,
Trying to ignore the static jolt
You shot through me.
With every utterance,
With every vibration,

My soul said good-bye.

The contract is over.
We’ve done our work.
Moving forward sometimes
feels like falling backward.

But my soul knows
Why you were there,
Why you showed up when you did,
Why you are who you are,
and
Where I go from here.

But I couldn’t do it without

My soul saying good-bye.

Say Goodbye
