These Lonely Streets

These lonely streets
Written August 24, 2002

It’s just this day,
This day that keeps me on my toes
And no one knows
just who he is
but me

He follows the light
that shines
at the end of his fingers
and lingers toward the door
where he knows maybe he’s not so strong

And it’s just this day
This day that knows my name
And I’m glad I came
Because now I can start to see
their pain and feel their tears
and they fear that maybe
he’s not so strong

All I hear are my footsteps
on these lonely streets
walking alone with him in my arms
alone with him, and he’s alone with me

Come on day!
Take the stars and draw his name
Because you know he won’t stay
And a shadow can only linger for so long
before the darkness takes it away
One day he’ll see that I’m not so strong
Maybe I’ll be wrong
So take this day
This day that keeps me from wondering
And I want to keep wondering
Why this time everything is white and black
and I can’t take back
This day
And I know that maybe I’m not so strong

All I hear are my footsteps
On these lonely streets
Walking alone with him in my arms
I’m alone with him
I’m alone with me
